Cathy Batchelor MA, BA(Hons), PGCE, CT ABRSM

Vice Principal

Cathy has been a piano teacher in Gibraltar since 1987, successfully putting children through ABRSM practical and theory examinations for over 25 years. She also likes to teach ocarina, recorder and music theory.

Since 2004, when Cathy received her BA(Hons) and PGCE from London University, and Certificate in Teaching from the Associated Board of the Royal College of Music, she has taught music at St Paul's First School, as well as initiating a music charity, 'Allegro Music Productions', with another teacher. Through this charity Cathy has organised many children's music concerts over the past ten years, as well as running the annual 'Gibraltar Festival for Young Musicians' where thousands of local school children have now performed. One of her main aims was to inspire children to become confident performers and give them a platform on which to perform.

In 2010 she obtained an MA 'Music Psychology in Education', with Sheffield University. Her final thesis was on local school children performing in ocarina instrumental ensembles, and it highlighted the importance of having regular performance opportunities available for young children, in order to enhance motivation, progress and enjoyment with their chosen instrument

Allegro Music Productions has now merged with Santos Productions to create the Gibraltar Academy of Music and Performing Arts and Cathy looks forward very much to working with Christian and other music tutors to establish a thriving musical hub for the youth of Gibraltar.
