Our new Musical Theatre Programme encompasses all three disciplines, Singing, Acting and Dance / Movement. Each of these disciplines is offered individually, but we are offering a combination of all three as part of our programme with a special price. This Class is ideal for students who wish to get more involved in musical theatre or pop performance in the future. We will be working on different musical numbers from different shows as well as learning techniques to combine all three disciplines in an effective manner. The dance element is designed as a singers and actors dance/movement class. This programme is designed to inspire children into taking theatre to the next level. Our aim is to take our students to a level where they will eventually become triple threats. In this day and age where performers are proficient in all disciplines, it is important to have as many strings to your bow as possible. Come and enjoy this new Musical Theatre Programme and discover what you are really made of!
One to One Tuition
One-to-one tuition provides the student with an opportunity for a more personalised approach. These classes require dedication and a lot of discipline. The student and his or her teacher. can learn how to work cohesively together, and create an ideal learning environment. In other words, one-to-one lessons enable instructors to design lessons based on their student’s needs, learning style, and personality. In these classes the student will develop their repertoire and work on their technique preparing them for live performances, exams and general musicianship. Students can progress at their own speed achieving goals and targets set by their teacher.
These classes are an alternative to One-to-One Tuition. They will be similar in style with a very personalised approach. This class is ideal for beginners who want to develop their skills further and are working at the same speed as another student of their same ability/age. This will give them an insight as to what the one-to one classes will entail in the future if they choose to continue tuition. It is also ideal for students who are working towards the same goal or exam. This way they will be able to work together on repertoire and techniques required.
Group Classes in Technical Elements
In these classes students will be covering a range of playing techniques compulsory in exams and also working on different skills to make you an all-round musician primarily aural awareness, scales, general musicianship, rhythm and pitch. Lessons consist of approximately 8 students sharing a one-hour lesson. These groups will be divided according to instrument and skill levels/age.
Classes will be divided according to Grade levels. There will be between 8-10 students in each class working their way through the ABRSM curriculum with a view of sitting an exam at the end of the year. Music Theory is an invaluable tool and often an entry requirement of students wish to enter into higher education in music. If students are thinking of taking their practical exams to an advanced level and take the higher grades, grade 5 theory is a requirement. All students can take practical exams without taking music theory until they reach grade 5 practical. In order to move on, all examination boards will require that students pass their grade 5 theory in order to progress into grades 6, 7 and 8 practical. If this is something that a student will wish to undertake, we suggest that they start taking theory as soon as possible.
The Academy offers the opportunity for singers to take part in different choral projects:
Gibraltar Youth Choir: For singers between the ages of 8 and 21. In these classes students will be putting into practice all the skills learnt in their group/individual technique classes. We will be working mainly on harmony and ensemble singing. The Academy will be the new home to the Award-Winning Santos Productions Choir which will now be re-branded as The Gibraltar Youth Choir under the direction of Christian Santos. All singers in the choir will be required to attend a technique class offered by The Academy
Chamber Ensembles and Bands
The Academy will also give students the chance to work or create small ensembles or bands. Students will work on the basics with playing with other instrumentalists and singers. The individual parts of each song will be studied by all ensemble members to create an understanding of how everything fits together. Concepts learned can be applied to any combination of instruments. Lessons require in-class participation as well as extra practice at home. Open to all instrumentalists and singers with a basic proficiency on their instrument.
Youth Orchestra Programme
We will be working towards establishing The Gibraltar Youth Orchestra. This is a creative environment where young musicians from The Academy come together to rehearse and perform symphonic music. The orchestra provides young musicians with the opportunity to study and perform established classical works and the exciting opportunity to showcase new music. Students will be expected to put in to practice the lessons taught in their group or one-to-one tuition classes in order to bring out the best in each individual. By providing an orchestral experience available to all students, The Gibraltar Youth Orchestra aims to become a musical voice that embraces the entire Gibraltarian community.
In our Masterclass Series, students will be invited to attend sessions hosted by industry professionals as they provide an insight into the working world of music and drama. We will also have sessions hosted by local musicians to talk about their particular instruments and careers.
