GIBFYM

11 May 2017

The Gibraltar Festival for Young Musicians was a huge success this year with over 500 students taking part. There was a change of format for the GIBFYM Gala Concert this year, which was held on Saturday 1st April at the John Mackintosh Hall, presented by Christian Santos and with the adjudicator present to make his final decisions. An innovation this year was that the adjudicator invited 6 local performers and 6 international performers to perform and compete for the Local Young Musician of the Year and Best International Musician Bursaries on the actual Gala Night. The Local Ensemble and Local School Choir Bursaries were also decided on the final night, as the top three ensembles and top three school choirs were invited to perform.

This made for an exciting programme of performers and a charged atmosphere as all performers gave of their very best on the night, striving to be winners.

Even if children were not invited to perform and compete for the Local Young Musician of the Year or Best International Musician at the Gala, some were already winners of one of the other bursaries or trophies and were awarded their prizes at the Gala.

The adjudicator this year was Anthony Williams M.Mus, Dip.RAM, GRSM, LRAM
