This past year has seen the Academy organise a series of Workshops and Masterclasses from Piano to Drums to Gospel. This past month we had a Double Whammy having organised a String Workshop and Conducting Workshop.

During the string workshop, the students had the chance to perform their exam pieces and get feedback from different tutors, which was invaluable to all of them.

The conducting workshop was led by Douglas Coombes from the Amici Singers. The young musicians from GAMPA were given the chance to come and try their conducting skills on the choir under Douglas Coombes’ professional guidance. He mentioned spotting a lot of potential amongst the students that he hoped would be nurtured in the future. It was a wonderful learning experience for all who took part.

Students from GAMPA were also invited to a concert by The Amici Singers at the Convent Ballroom, in aid of The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity, providing a wide-ranging programme which included a Missa Brevis (a short mass) by Douglas Coombes himself, right through to songs by George Gershwin and Jerome Kern, by way of folk songs and spirituals.

We have many more workshops and masterclasses lined up for the next academic year and hope to be able to continue offering these opportunities to our students for many more years to come
