
Rafael Ramirez Barea - BA (hons) MA PG Dip
Cello Teacher
Born in Madrid in 1983, Rafael starts his cello studies at the age of 10. At the age of 19 he moved to the “Haute École de Musique of Geneva” to further his studies, completing his degree and Master of Arts in cello pedagogy with Daniel Grosgurin. He continued his at the Trinity College of London/London City University where he obtained a postgraduate diploma in cello performing with Richard Markson.
During his cello studies, Rafael received masterclasses from international cellists and musicians as Lluis Claret, Wolfgang Boetcher, Janos Starker, Miklos Perenyi, María de Macedo and Gabor Tacaks.
As a cello performer, Rafael has taken part in international musical projects and concerts with orchestras such as London Philharmonic (Future Foyle First), Suisse Romande Orchestra, Orion Symphony Orchestra, Contemporary Music Group of Geneva and Trinity College and at international music festivals as Archipel (Switzerland), Kronberg-Franckfurt Cello festival, Ciudad de Tui and Madrid Summer Festival.
Rafael has played in venues such as the Royal Festival Hall, Cadogan Hall, BBC, Radio Suisse Romande, Victoria Hall, Auditorio Nacional and Radio Nacional de España.
As a cello teacher, he has been teaching in Geneva and at present will combine the Gibraltar Academy of Music and Performing Arts with a performing career in Gibraltar and Spain.
